Biographical history
Jack Viviers was a reporter, journalist and editor for several English and Afrikaans newspapers in South Africa and England. He was the founding member of Editorial Board of Image, a representative of National Newspapers, and director of public services and presidential spokesman in P W Botha’s government.

The Papers were deposited by Thomas Wheeler, who was related to Jack Viviers through family association.

Scope and content
The collection comprises of correspondences, speeches, research papers, newspaper clippings, and tape recordings collected by Jack Viviers. Most of these are from the National Party Presidesnt P W Botha's office.

The original order of the collection was kept. Please note that in some instances Northern Rhodesia and Southern Rhodesia were combined under 'Rhodesia' only, while in some cases they had separate media coverage in newspaper clippings, which is reflected in the archival description.
