The collection contains the personal and working papers of Richard (Rick) Turner, a South African academic, educationist and theorist, who was murdered by the South African security forces in 1978. His killing was part of the public hearings at the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), where members of the former security cluster were forced to testify. The collection also contains the Foszia Fisher-Turner papers, including material relating to the Institute for Industrial Education (IIE) papers, South African Labour Bulletin (SALB), diary on philosophy, and other material.
The two scrapbooks contain press clippings, pamphlets and other printed material from Reverend Henry Adams, are of 4 men who came to South Africa in 1878 with the first Bishop of Pretoria, HB Bousfield. In addition, there are transcripts that outline the content of the scrapbooks including a letter titled Bound for Pretoria.
The collection contains the photographic work of the South African photographer Ernest Cole, some of which culminated in the iconic book "House of Bondage", published in 1967. Also included are his notes, correspondence and research material, as well as his photographic work which he continued in the USA.

The collection contains the typescript for "African tragedy: the life story of a native doctor", written by the Psycho-analyst Wulf Sachs.
There is no date on the typescript, it was received in 1944, and has 'Draft' written on its spine. The content is similar to "Black Anger" by W. Sachs, published in 1947, as it deals with the same character 'John'. But whereas "African tragedy" is told in the first person, "Black Anger", although including identical incidents, is written by Wulf Sachs as told to him by 'John'.
The collection contains the research papers for Susan Parnell's dissertation, mainly on housing, slum clearance, group areas, public health and influenza and plague epidemics, compounds and hostels, and the growth of townships in the Johannesburg area.
