Abbe Nicolas Louis De La Caille, Notebook

The notebook contains observations made by De la Caille at the Cape and elsewhere; a list of expenses in connection with his observatory at St. Martin (Paris); and details of the mathematical basis for his calculations, including lists of formulae and trigonometrical proofs, used as an aide-memoire during his travels. There are calculations of some star coordinates, apparently made at the Cape, and, most important of all, a calculation of the difference in latitude between the Cape and Klipfontein for his determination of an arc of the meridian.

Solomon Tshekisho Plaatje, Recordings

The recording of songs were made during a visit by Sol Plaatje to the UK, on behalf of the then South African National Native Congress (SANNC later ANC). They were recorded at the studios of the Gramophone Co. Ltd. In Hayes, Middlesex on 16 October 1923.

Sol Plaatje, singing, was accompanied by Sylvia Colenso on the piano, the daughter of Francis Ernest Colenso, son of the Bishop of Natal John William Colenso.

The record contains the very first recording of "Nkosi Sikelel iAfrica", also listed here as "Hark 'tis the Watchman's Cry".

Hitsquads. Testimony of a South African Security Policeman: the full story, by Dirk Coetzee

The testimony was written by Dirk Coetzee in exile, at the ANC Headquarters in Lusaka and in London, with the help of his brother Ben Coetzee. The main body was completed in 1990, and was spell checked and reprinted by Ben Coetzee in 1994.

Dirk Coetzee's testimony would also form part of the submissions to the Harms Commission of Inquiry, which he gave in London.

Following a raid by the Goldstone Commission on the offices of the Directorate of Covert Collection (DCC), President De Klerk announced on the 18 November 1992, that an investigation into the activities of the DCC would be conducted and that General Pierre Steyn, a former Chief of Defence Force Staff, had been appointed to take charge of this investigation into Third Force activities.
