Papers of Clementson Family

The collection contains biographical information relating to the family of Thomas and Margaret Clementson and their children, in the form of newspaper articles and photos. They lived in Hoetjies Bay (Saldanha), where Thomas worked as catechist and teacher amongst the fishing community at Saldanha Bay.

Noel Stott Papers

This collection contains various primary material reflecting the early year of the SOUTH AFRICAN HISTORY ARCHIVE (SAHA) and its activities: Deed of Trust, Management and Employment Policies, Minutes of Board and other Meetings, Annual Reports, Financial records, and Funding Proposals. It also includes detailed records relating to a dispute between Noel Stott and SAHA (2004-2008). Other records in this collection include: documents relating to the XII Non-Aligned Movement Summit in Durban in 1998, reports, papers and publications on violence in South Africa and various ephemeral publications, including material of the South African Communist Party (SACP) and the African National Congress (ANC). Additional material includes: Speeches by Nelson Mandela and Conscientious Objection and the End Conscription Campaign. The collection was donated to Historical Papers between 2008 and 2013.

This collection contains records relating to Noel's involvement in various ways in the struggle for justice and human security in our country as well as his service in administrative and research capacities to many NGOs and other community based organisations. This material was collected by Noel over a number of years.

Dr. Catherine Higgs

Oral interviews conducted by Dr. Catherine Higgs, University of Tennessee, during the period of 2005-2006, for the project "Faith, Politics and Resistance: Catholic Nuns in Apartheid South Africa". The project relates experiences of Catholics during the Apartheid era in South Africa from 1948-1994, and will be released in book form under the (working) title "Sisters for Justice: Catholic Women Religious in Apartheid South Africa".

The interviews are available on CD, there are currently no transcripts. The researcher included signed Release forms and Deed of gift forms for each person interviewed.

Jeremy Brown Shearer, Research papers

The collection contains research papers, mainly copies, into the history of the Department of Foreign Affairs (1945-1961), which were generated by Jeremy Brown Shearer for his degree Doctor of Law at the University of South Africa. The thesis is entitled "Against the world: South Africa and human rights at the United Nations 1945-1961, and was submitted in November 2007. He also published a book with the same title at UNISA Press in 2011. He had also previously, after his retirement from public service, completed the English version of the "History of the South African Department of Foreign Affair 1927-1993", which was published in 2005.

Papers of Shunmugam Nganasamantham Chetty

The papers mainly include documents relating to Shun Chetty's professional activities as an attorney in Johannesburg and Durban during the apartheid era as well as documents relating to the striking off Mr Chetty from the roll of attorneys. There are also documents concerning Mr Chetty's applications to the High Court of South Africa for his reinstatement as an attorney. This collection was lodged in Historical Papers by S. Chetty's wife Dr Fazila (Varachia) Chetty in 2008.

Neame family papers

The collection contains the family papers of the Neame family, namely Graham, Peter, Jennifer and Sylvia Neame, and their parents Elliott Elwin (also called 'Bobby') and Primrose Neame, as well as Maude Barlow, their maternal grandmother and mother of Primrose Neame (nee Barlow). The family historical documents and photographs also extend to the wider Barlow and Smit families.

The items in these family papers were to a large extent compiled and collected by Maude Barlow (nee Smit), and the collection was therefor arranged accordingly, even though it was subsequently deposited at Historical Paper by Graham and Sylvia Neame in 2016.
