Originals of a newspaper brought out during the Siege of Mafeking, numbers 1-152, from the 1 November 1899 to the 31 May 1900.
Also included is a preface page, issued by the publisher after the siege, relating the events in the publishing house during the siege whilst having to produce the Special Siege Slip.

Biographical and administrative history: The newspaper was issued daily, "Shells permitting', by the publisher Townshend & Son, Market Square No.56. As from 5 January 1900, beingthe 86th day, up to the 16 May 1900, being the 216th and last day of the siege, the newspaper included this counting of days under siege in the heading of the newspaper. Issues of the Special Siege Slip had to be suspended from the 17-20 January 1900 due to heavy bombing of the town. Paper shortages led to the newspaper being printed on different alternative colour paper.
