Maisha Stanza Johannes Bopape was the General Secretary of the Mamelodi Civic Organisation and worked at the Community Resource and Information Centre (CRIC). He was detained on 29 June 1988 by the police under section 29 of the Internal Security Act. He was reported to have escaped. In 1993, an ex-policeman, Johnny Mokaleng pointed out sites where he alleged Bopapes body had been buried but no remains were found.
