- FondsA759 - Charles Lamb
- File1 - Print of Charles Lamb, from a drawing by Hancock, 1798, in the possession of Mr Cottle. R. Woodman was the engraver. Below the print is the note by Adam White "these characteristic remains by the author of Elia on a proof-sheet of Pringle's poems were given me by Mr Pringle's widow. She did not seem to love Lamb (see Imperfect Sympathies for the reason)". Imperfect sympathies was an essay published in Essay of Elia, in which Lamb admitted to a prejudice against "Scotchmen. As Pringle was a Scot, this would account for Mrs Pringle's dislike of Lamb
- File2 - Print of Christ's Church Hospital, drawn by S. Wale and engraved by J. Taylor
- File3 - Wash drawing of Lamb's house at Islington
- File4 - Copy of a letter from Lamb to Pringle, about his correcting of the proofs
- File5 - Proofs of pages 33-54 (misnumbered 66) of Pringle's African sketches, London. Moxon, 1834, with manuscript revisions and comments by Lamb. The poems contained in the page proofs were part of the Lion and the Giraffe, the Emigrant's Cabin, Makanna's Gathering, the Incantation, the Caffer Commando and A Noondays Dream. It seems likely that these are only a few of the poems given to Lamb for criticism. Lamb pointed out a number of spelling or printing errors, which were corrected in the published volume but his suggestions for major constructional changes were not adopted. In a few cases Lamb was able to persuade Pringle to use what he, Lamb, considered a more felicitous word
