Material includes letters, statements and press releases reflecting the involvement of anti-apartheid organisations in the efforts to obtain the release of political prisoners. Appeals from groups of prisoners are also included. After the announcement of the Pretoria Minute, there were renewed efforts to hasten the release of political prisoners. The issues and debates included, the definition of political prisoner, the membership and powers of the Amnesty Committee, the conditions of imprisonment in South African and Bophuthatswana prisons and the slow pace of releases.
