Includes clippings about the abuse of street children, children in prison, South West Africa, abandoned babies and domestic child abuse. One file covers articles over a four-month period where children were kidnapped shortly after birth from hospitals.

The collection material covers the years 1970 to 2002. Much of the material consists of copies with some exceptions. In co-operation with a large number of non-governmental organisations involved in human rights issues an extensive collection of reports, publications, pamphlets, telegrams and telexes, newsletters and letters was collected.

Later material, particularly in the Truth and Reconciliation Commission section was added from Internet news services and the TRC web site. There are a few letters from and to Kairos, but the bulk of the collection is Kairos' research and resource material. Kairos also developed a database and researched reports on detention, torture and deaths in detention for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Kairos research reports and publications are to be found in most of the sections.

Kairos has also donated audio-visual tapes of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings. A list of these is available at Historical Papers. A small collection of ephemera consists of campaign buttons, stickers and postcards. A collection of posters contains campaign posters and a series of exhibition posters. Books donated by Kairos have been added to the Africana Library.

Subjects include interim relief, setting up a fund for victims, allocation for reparation in government budget, compensation.

The subjects cover the full scope of the TRC with editorials, daily reports, comment and letters from readers.

A number of organisations concerned themselves with the growing number of children affected by apartheid and the state of emergency. The newspaper clippings report on these initiatives, the reasons and solutions.

Clippings includes references to detentions, rape, unlawful attacks on civilians, damage to property, bombings and the declaration of the state of emergency. Additional reports on individual cases. Other human rights issues such as homosexuality and freedom of association are mentioned.

Subjects include press bannings, music, literature, art under occupation, theatre, and military control of information. Also reviews of books about Namibia.

Include documents and a few clippings about the establishment and work of the NZA and criticism of the organisation's activities. The minutes of a working group established to investigate the expansion of the NZA project to other countries, terms of reference, correspondence and a policy document for the IMD are also included.

Subjects include the increasing incidence of rape and physical violence against women and children; rape and HIV/AIDS, rape survivor support services, women and children caught up in the political violence of the early 1990s particularly in KwaZulu Natal and family murders and suicide by breadwinners.
