Taking sides - conflict in South Africa

The photos were used for an Afrapix exhibition entitled "Taking Sides. Conflict in South Africa 1984-1986. An Afrapix Exhibition". They include images of forced relocations, demonstrations, troops in the townships, teargas, barricades, victims of the violence, funerals of political activists, Trade Union meetings and Culture vs Apartheid. The photographs were taken mostly from May 1985 to June 1986.

Domestic workers

The photographs were used for an Afrapix exhibition entitled "Domestic Workers".
They are images of domestic workers at work, during their time off, in their own homes, and attending Centres where they learned sewing and other skills. Also included photos of meetings of the South African Domestic Workers Union (SADWU) nos. 32-39. Most were taken in 1986 and 1987.

All our children - A joint Afrapix / Vumani project

The photographs were used for an exhibition entitled "All our Children. Photo Exhibition Vumani. Pix by Afrapix".
The images are of children of all races and from different socio-economic backgrounds. They depict living conditions in rural and urban environments in the 1980s, and some depict social upheaval.

Women in the 1980s

The photos, mainly of women, are most probably from Afrapix photographers, and were presumably used for an exhibition.
The images are of relocations (forced removals - Weenen and others), women workers and farm workers, demonstrations by women, FEDTRAW rally, women in trade unions, women affected by violence, and living conditions of women in urban environments.

Hostels

Photographs of interior scenes of various hostels, including Jabulani, Lenway, Kagiso, Delmore and New Canada. The scenes are of dormitaries, kitchens, bathrooms and other living areas.
