Letter from Major Pritchard to T.E. Liefeldt

Pritchard is congratulating Liefeldt on the award of the Distinguished Service Order (DSO), a military decoration of the United Kingdom, and formerly of other parts of the Commonwealth of Nations and British Empire.

Major Pritchard's tour of Ovamboland

Pages 11 and 12 from 'The Illustrated Star', 1916, with images from Major Pritchard's tour of Ovamboland.

On Page 11 the caption for the group photo no. 2 incorrectly says "A group taken at the house of Chief Martin; Major Pritchard is in the centre with Martin on his right hand" - but the group photo is actually taken with Chief Mandume.

Report by Major S.M. Pritchard

The report was compiled by Major S.M. Pritchard, O.C. of Native Affairs in the Protectorate of Ovamboland in 1915, on a visit paid by him to Ovamboland to notify the chiefs of the military protectorate, obtain labour for the railways and establish the boundaries.
The report is illustrated with photographs of Ovamboland including Tsumeb, Otijwarango, Namutoni, Namakunde, mission stations, scenes of surrendered Germans and Portuguese troops and of chiefs Martin and Mandume.
