Notes written during the Anglo-Boer War

Notes written during the war between England and the Transvaal 1899-1900 by Celestine du Plessis, Rustenburg.

Covers period 1899 Oct.1 - 1900 Apr.28. Tells how her father joined Boer commando but determined not to fire shot at English. All British subjects told to join Boers or get out. Tells of rumours and how she is sceptical of Boor accounts of the war. She regards English defeats as bad news. Describes English occupation of Rustenburg and how they entertained English officers. Baden Powell Dong at school concert. When Boers retake the town, they threaten to shoot pro-English, including her brother-in-law Herman Schoch. Her father is in disgrace with the Boers because he handed over commissariat papers to English. Whole district is evacuated and they trek with British troops to Pretoria, to refugee Damp. Much illness in Pretoria. She starts to nurse with Dr. Kay.
