'Journal of a voyage from England to Bombay, China and the Cape of Good Hope in 1832 and 1833'
Describes his voyage as assistant surgeon on the 'Duchess of Atholl' in the service of the East India Company. Pages 398-433 relate to a visit to the Cape from 15-24 January 1833, in which he comments on the social life at the Cape, a visit to Mr. Cloete at Constantia to see his vineyards and cellars, and on George Thompson, the traveler.
The journal is illustrated with color drawings of the 'Duchess of Atholl' and the flags of the East India Company and pen and ink hand-drawn map of the Cape and geological sketch of the Mountain and Table Bay.
An account of an expedition, Jul.-Nov. 1880, led by a member of the American Zulu Mission from Durban up the East Coast, with detailed description of the places and peoples visited in Mozambique and neighbouring islands. Label on cover reads 'Our lamented Pinkerton's story'.

'Extracts from the narrative of the journey of Mr. Read and others to Caffraria, dated Bethelsdorp, May 21, 1816'.
In the form of a letter to the Director of the London Missionary Society, Read describes a journey to the Eastern Cape, during which he met the prophet Makana and the Xhosa chief Gaika. There are references to Dr. J.T. van der Kemp's pioneer work in the missionary field.
The photographs originate from an album compiled by Dorothea Bleek entitled "The Bleek and Wilman expedition up the Molopo River". On this field trip she was joined by Maria Wilman, at the time Director of the McGregor Museum in Kimberley.
The collection consists of letters written by Helen Joseph to Joan McLagen and her husband Philip during the Apartheid era in South Africa, covering the years between 1962 and 1992. Helen Joseph was a major human rights defender and anti-Apartheid opponent for more than 40 years. The letters tell of Helen Joseph's experience in the fight against Apartheid, and her life in general during that period in South Africa. The correspondence between her and Joan and Philip commenced shortly after Helen was placed under the house arrest in 1962. The McLagen family provided financial assistance to victims of Apartheid and their families. Through this correspondence they developed a warm and lasting friendship. The anti-Apartheid campaign in Australia was supported not only by the State of Victoria but also joined by the other regions of Australia. Helen Joseph became a central point of contact, enabling members of the Amnesty International organisation in Australia to help victims of Apartheid in South Africa.
The Commission of Inquiry was set up on the 11 February 1980, following the revelation that the former Deputy Director of the IUEF, Craig Williamson, was a member of the South African Security Police.
