The LRC was asked to represent the Jangaliso family at the inquest into the death of J Jangaliso, who had been shot on 1 December 1990 by a Special Municipal Constable. The constable claimed that Jangaliso had fired on him, and he had acted in self-defence. Only a toy gun and a homemade knife were found on the deceased. The court was unable to make a finding. Application was made to the Attorney-General to prosecute the constable, but it was unsuccessful.
The South African Police shot M Mabusela on 16 June 1986 as she was walking to the taxi rank in Crossroads, White City, Jabavu with her brother. The LRC requested an autopsy to be performed by Dr J Gluckman. Material includes the autopsy report and a letter from Rev VM Mpinda of the Jabavu Baptist Church expressing dissatisfaction with the death certificate and the autopsy. He also states that the police had not recorded the shooting. In 1992, the LRC sent a letter to the Attorney-General enquiring if a date for an inquest had ever been set.
