Amnesty

Amnesty could be granted to perpetrators of crimes under the apartheid regime, if it was judged that full disclosure was made and other conditions were fulfilled. These case gave the families of victims the opportunity to make representations against the granting of amnesty.

Anderson, J and others

The clients were part of a group of onlookers who, on 16 May 1992 were assaulted by members of the South African Police at an accident scene in Reiger Park. The police used teargas, assaulted the clients, and detained them. They were charged with resisting arrest and released on bail. At the trial, they were acquitted. They approached the LRC to assist with a suit for damages resulting from wrongful arrest and assault. The matter was settled when the clients accepted an offer of R8000 each. Materials include medical reports.
