Parte deKAIROS, records
The applicant was born to a black mother and a coloured father, before they were legally married, hence she was classified as "black". Her application for re-classification as "coloured" was rejected.
Parte deKAIROS, records
The client was referred by "The Black Sash". She was desperately trying to get a temporary maintenance grant for her 6 children. Her husband had been missing since October 1989. She and her children were classified "black", but two of the children attended coloured schools. She cannot apply for a Coloured Welfare Grant, eventhough she lives in a coloured area. She can also not apply for re-classification of the children as "coloured", as it needed the consent of the husband. Her situation was found to be desperate and she was given food parcels.
