Linda Mario Mogale vs The State. Case No: 329/79

The applicant was seeking an order to declare his conviction and sentence unlawful. The applicant, a young black man was found guilty in the Transvaal Provincial Division, FS Steyn on three counts of manslaughter (counts 1, 2 and 3), three counts of arson, three counts of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, 3 charges of malicious injury to property, and a charge of involvement in terrorist activities, namely a contravention of section of the Terrorism Act 1967. The appeal succeeded and the conviction and sentence were set aside.

The State vs Wouter Basson. Case No: 404/2002

The State was applying for condonation of non-compliance with the court's rules regarding its application for the change of legal questions which change by the trial. The respondent was charged in the Transvaal Provincial Division on 67 charges including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder, fraud, theft, possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs. The State's application was dismissed.

After a series of negotiations and incidences, an agreement was reached that the applicant will stop evicting respondents. A relationship in terms of issues such as fire control, stock control and preferential employment was established.

Brakfontein Community Land Claim. Case No: Unknown

The applicants, the Ga-Mampuru which is part of the Bapedi tribe were granted the farm Brakfontein by Stephanus Grove, a representative of Paul Kruger after the Anglo-Boer War. The tribe lived on the farm until September 1973 when they were forcibly removed as part of the policy "homeland consolidation". The tribe submitted a claim for the allocation of the farm Brakfontein 187 JS.

The Chris Hani 2 Informal Settlement vs Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Council. Case No: 05/12192

The applicants seek an order ordering the first respondent to provide the applicants with basic temporary shelter, basic water and sanitation services and access to sufficient food, nutrition and health care services. The applicant is a group of about 30 000 people who were forcibly evicted from a portion of the remaining extent of the Farm Driefontein 85, IR, known as the Chris Hani 2 Informal Settlement.

The Community of Driefontein vs Minister of Co-operation and Development and Others. Case No: Unknown

The applicants were seeking an order to stop the respondents from evicting them. The land in dispute was bought by Pixley ka Isaka Seme in 1912 and it was divided into 310 plots which were sold to various individuals. In the early 1960's, government officials told the Driefontein community that they were going to be removed because Driefontein constitutes a "Black spot". There was a community resistance to that and it has continued till to the present day. The Heyshope Dam was planned and 84 Driefontein plots fall within the "purchase line" for the dam. Most of the court case documents are missing.
