E N Nomtshongwana vs The Minister of Police. Case No: 8016/86

The applicant was seeking relief from the respondent, the Minister of Police, damages of R36 000 - 00 said to have been sustained at 18h30 on 11 February 1986 near a street called NY108 in Gugulethu. She was struck in the neck by a projectile fired by a member of the South African Police which damaged her vocal chords. The applicant was awarded R14000, costs of the application and of the postponement.

Sophie Gudula N.O. vs The Minister of Law and Order. Case No: 606/86

The applicant was seeking relief against the respondent. The applicant in her capacity was representing her son who was shot and paralysed by police during the riots on the 11th November 1985 at Kings Street, Paballelo, Upington. He was shot at close range by SAP shotgun fire as he stood outside his grandmother's home. The respondent was ordered to pay the applicant R1 400 000 - 00 and the costs of the two counsel.
