The Historical Papers Archive received the records of the CSVR in 2007, representing the work of the CSVR through its projects and programmes. It should be noted, that the material received is quite patchy and does not cover the full extent of the work done in the various Units and of all the projects and programmes of the CSVR exhaustively, gaps will have to be filled through subsequent archival deposits. Also, reference is made to the CSVR's TRC collection in an earlier collection received by SAHA, collection number AL3110.

City Safety Project

The project was established in January 2000 with the support of the Open Society Foundation of South Africa. It aimed to enhance the capacity of urban local authorities to improve safety and security, to contribute to knowledge about safety and to increase capacity for law enforcement and crime prevention. The project worked with the metropolitan councils of Johannesburg, Tshwane (Pretoria), Durban, Cape Town, Ekurhuleni (East Rand) and the Nelson Mandela Metro (Port Elizabeth). The "Urban Futures Conference" held in Johannesburg in June 2000 approached CSVR to arrange a series of discussions on urban safety.
