S Makhele belonged to Golden Aid, a benefit society. One benefit was that after 5 years membership the member could get assistance with a home loan. This was later refused and Makhele demanded a refund of premiums since the contract had not been honoured. This was refused. Summons was issued but there is no indication in the records of the outcome.

The client joined Blue Shield, an unregistered benefit society that undertook to provide burial cover for the client and his family, for which the client paid R1 per month. He paid for 10 years. In total the client paid Blue Shield R130. The LRC wrote a letter of demand on the client's behalf to recover the money he had paid. The matter was settled when Blue Shield agreed to refund R65.

The client joined Phalafala Legal Costs Assistance (Pty) Ltd, a benefit society that undertook amongst other things to provide burial assistance. When the client applied for these benefits, his claim was rejected. The LRC issued summons demanding the R480 paid in premiums.

P Malete's wife bought a car from New Triangle in 1976. The car was later repossessed in 1980. An application for summary judgement was not upheld. A later motion of exception was heard which forced New Triangle to return the car.

S Mlambo purchased a car from New Triangle under a credit agreement, who unlawfully repossessed the vehicle, thus repudiating the contract. The client sued for a refund.

B Sithole was ordered to pay R200 to ZA Motorverkope as an outstanding debt on a car. However he was not indebted to the company. The LRC sued ZA Motorverkope, the judgement was rescinded and a refund of R72 was claimed in a counter suit.

Xulu, J

The car that J Xulu had paid a deposit of R1840 for was sold to a third party. Star Line could not resolve the matter so it was referred to the LRC. Summons was issued and the money recovered.
