Racial tension in South Africa

Correspondence deals with general racial tensions, racial prejudice, general rights for Africans and the riots in Port Elizabeth, October 1952. Correspondents of note are Wilfred Parker, Patrick Duncan, C.W.W. Greenridge and W.A. Vissert'Hooft.

South African National Council of Young Men's Christian Associations

Correspondence and papers of the Y.M.C.A. with which organisation Rheinallt Jones was actively involved. He corresponds mainly with R.J. van Buuren (National Secretary).

The papers include the minutes and reports of the various committees of the Y.M.C.A. with some emphasis on the work of the Y.M.C.A. during the years of the Second World War, and its activities among the Non- Europeans.

National Youth Conferences Organised by the Department of Education, Arts and Science Held under the Auspices of the N.A.C.A.E.

The first conference was held on the 10-15 February. The papers include minutes of meetings held to organise the conference, a broadcast address by Rheinallt Jones on 'Save our Youth' (item 10), a list of organisations, youth movements, etc., which were represented at the first Youth Conference, topics discussed, resolutions, draft constitution of the South African National Council for Youth Services, and Rheinallt Jones' address at the conference on 'Education of Youth for Citizenship'.

The second conference was held on 5 April 1950. There is some correspondence connected with the organisation of the conference as well as the programme of the conference.

There are also press clippings (items 32-34) and pamphlets put out by the Empire Youth Movement (items 35-37).
