The Society of the Sacred Mission is a brotherhood devoting itself to education and mission work at Modderpoort in the Free State and Lesotho. It took over the mission in 1902 from the Brotherhood of St. Augustine at Modderpoort. The records include the constitution, history, minutes, correspondence and general records relating to the Society of the Sacred Mission.

This collection consists of correspondence, notices, minutes, constitution of the various societies, finance, service register, circular, conference material, pamphlets, Miscellaneous material, administration, publications and the History of the chaplaincy.

The collection contains documents relating to the ordination of women to Priesthood in the Anglican Church. Included are records of correspondence of Ellen Davis with clergy from various churches, as well as a pamphlet on women priests and practical issues.

Contains records relating to St. peter's College from its origins in Rosettenville and during its subsequent moves to Alice, when it became a constituent College of the Federal Theological Seminary, to St. Bede's in the then Transkei and finally to Imbali near Pietermaritzburg.

Including tape recordings and a collection of transcripts of speeches, sermons, interviews and remarks entitled "The Rainbow People of God". Audio tapes of "The Rainbow People of God" and "An African Prayer Book". Miscellaneous information on Archbishop Tutu (curriculum vitae, biographical notes, press cuttings).

The papers cover the period of his ministry in Africa as priest, bishop and archbishop.

Correspondence relating to this organization, a society for prospective ordinands, and individual files relating to candidates for the ministry.
