Protest against the appointment of W.E. Smyth as Bishop of the Diocese of Lebombo, including complaints that Smyth works only for the native interests and that he substituted the President of the South African Republic's name for that of tho Queen in the ritual.

The text reads as follows: "P.S. not making the remedy up myself for some time I substituted on paper the Rhubarb for the Calomel. It would do no harm but I fear the remedy thus transmuted would do no good it is as follows Take of Resin of Jalap + of Rhubarb six or eight grains of Calomel and of Quinine each four grains. Mix etc. D. Livingstone The whole may be given at once if the patient is difficult to be moved. If not 10-15 or 20 gr[ain]s or one two or three pills.", undated.
