Woman in one-roomed home in Alexandra
Fait partie de JULIE FREDERIKSE, Collection of photographs
Woman in one-roomed home in Alexandra. The family moved from house in township to disused TB treatment centre to make way for houses (the new houses are rented at exorbitant prices the people cannot afford). This woman has made a cardboard partition in the room - shared by 4 families - to create privacy for her family.

Shacks in Hout Bay on sand dunes
Fait partie de JULIE FREDERIKSE, Collection of photographs
Plush homes in the background stand in sharp contrast to the squatter shacks in the foreground on Princess street in Hout Bay. Efforts so far, by the minister of provincial affairs and planning to offer the squatters land somewhere else, have been turned down by the squatters.
