A student in possession of an anti election sticker is harassed and searched by the police at a polling booth in Athlone on 22 August - Day of the election for the coloured house of representatives. Policeman found a "don't vote" sticker.
Political slogan graffiti on a wall in Rylands, " H. Osman can't speak to save his own arse. How can he save us? Boycott!!" Popular resentment towards a candidate for the Indian House of Parliament expressed in graffiti. Mr Osman received so few votes in the August 1984 elections he lost his election deposit.

Shocked Progressive Federal Party (PFP) workers react to the news of the loss of another PFP constituency to the National Party (NP) as results were broadcast over national television.
