SANAC was created by Cabinet in 2000 and restructured in April 2007 as a high-level, multi-sectoral partnership body, to advise government on the development and implementation of appropriate HIV and AIDS policies and programmes. Membership included both government departments and civil society groups. It is chaired by the Deputy President of the country, supported by a Deputy Chairperson.
