Discharge Native Registers

Discharge registers for African labourers listed amongst other information like Tribe, Source of supply (labour broker), and Reason for discharge. A column of Remarks includes reasons like: Time expired (T Ex), Undesirable, Repatriated due to accidents and illness ("amputated foot"), Rejected by Medical Officer (M.M.O) due to poor physique or X-Ray examination, Sent to Gaol, Diseases like Dysentery, Silicosis, Pneumonia, Meningitis, Bronchitis, TB and others. there would be causes of deaths of miners by accidents due to rock fall, fractured spine, fractured base of skull and others. Often miners would be transferred between mines like Geldenhuis Deep, Durban Deep, Nourse Mines, consolidated Langlaagte, Crown Mines, Randfontein South, Robinson Deep and many others, which is also indicated in the Discharge book. Later columns included are Medical Examination, Deserted, Crimes/Convictions.
