Manuscript in handwriting of the author A.S. Dawson, written under the pseudonum Arthur Percival, 357 leaves, by the title of "Ten years in the Transvaal 1872-1881; a story of stirring times by one who went through them".

Explanatory handwritten notes by F.W. Bell in 1931 (publisher?). Accompanied by photos of early Pretoria with explanatory notes, around 1881-1897, taken by C. Robertson, which were part of the original manuscript. Also included a newspaper article "Burial of the British Flag" from the 'Transvaal Argus', August 1881.

The subject matter is primarily the relationship between the black and white peoples of Southern Africa and the problems of the urban Black. Included are a collection of short stories on Tongoland and an autobiographical sketch in which he describes the clash between the Basuto and the authorities during the Witsiehoek Commission of Enquiry, 1949.
