Subjects:
Questions of a successor to Bishop Colenso and the possibility of a coadjutor bishop for Natal.
F.H. Cox is being considered to succeed Colenso but some Natal churchmen have elected W.J. Batler. It would be wrong to ask the Colonial Office to intervene in a clerical dispute. It is proposed to consecrate the new bishop, W.K. Macrorie, in Scotland. There are petitions from the Chureh of England in Natal and the Cape of Good Hope, protesting against appointing a successor to Bishop Colenso. The advice of Archbishop Tait to churchmen is to keep out of the controversy.
Letter from Walter Baugh to the Bp.of Cape Town, 1864, on Umlazi Mission Station; undated and unsigned report on Greyton and neighbourhood, Mooi River, Bushman's River and Ladysmith.
Subjects:
Desirability of removing the Umlazi Mission Station or of finding a second mission station to take care of the natives who have left the area round Umlazi because of the coming of white sugar plantations.
The population, farming and openings for church work in various parts of Natal.
