Residents of Ritz Plaza

A dispute between Berville Properties and tenants of the Ritz Plaza in 1988 resulted in the tenants making part payment of the rental. The building was in a state of disrepair. They were given notice to vacate the premises by 30 December 1988. This was ignored resulting in a Supreme Court case being scheduled for February 1989. With the LRC representing the tenants it was agreed to take the case to arbitration to determine a reasonable rental. Includes press clippings.

Clients of Artistic Memorials

Artistic Memorials accepted instalment towards payment for tombstones. The LRC assisted the affected clients when the business went into liquidation. Information is incomplete and it is not clear whether the clients received any refunds. Includes press clippings.

Rasefate, M

The client and EMK Tombstones entered into a verbal agreement whereby the client would purchase two tombstones for R2000, to be paid in instalments and to be erected on completion of payment. The client then signed a document which differed from this agreement, but the seller did not make these changes apparent. After payments of R1960, the seller changed the purchase price to R2500. The LRC issued summons and the matter was settled when EMK Tombstones agreed to the original conditions.
