The collection contains some of the working papers that were generated by Douglas McGavin Calerwood during his time at the Department of Architecture at the University of the Witwatersrand.
The collection contains the photographic work of the South African photographer Ernest Cole, some of which culminated in the iconic book "House of Bondage", published in 1967. Also included are his notes, correspondence and research material, as well as his photographic work which he continued in the USA.
Gerhard Maré book 'Declassified' drew from what might be called an ‘Archive on post-1994 racialism’ that he collected since 1990. In addition to other materials, this consists of press clippings selected through the filter of his own theoretical and empirical interests. The organising principle of the tens of thousands of clippings is the pervasive presence of race thinking (racialism), actions informed by such thinking, and templates that demand the continuation of racialism, in South Africa post-1994. The unpublished manuscript provides Selope Thema's reminiscences of his childhood; BaPedi tradition in the former Northern Transvaal; his activities during the second Anglo-Boer War; his determination to be educated; and his days at Lovedale.
The collection comprises of correspondences, speeches, research papers, newspaper clippings, and tape recordings collected by Jack Viviers. Most of these are from the National Party Presidesnt P W Botha's office.
