Reaffirms his belief that Crewe has remained loyal to Smuts' party. Feels that Crewe is a die-hard in politics and has not kept pace with constitutional movements in the Empire. Wishes Crewe good health.

Has discussed world politics with Smuts and found him pessimistic. Smuts fears that Britain is not pursuing a definite policy. Lord Crewe blames this on the fact that Britain has a national government which attempts to be very representative. Also there is no commanding leader at the head of the British government. Hopes that the Separatist Party in South Africa has lost ground.
