Lord Selborne to C.P. Crewe

Indian Empire is dissolving. Selborne can do nothing for the Protectorates. Is confident that Thomas will not give way but will set up a Royal Commission. Considers Ludendorf to be insane.

Lord Crewe to C.P. Crewe

Has discussed world politics with Smuts and found him pessimistic. Smuts fears that Britain is not pursuing a definite policy. Hopes that the Separatist Party in South Africa has lost ground.
