Biographical history
Matthew Nell was the Founder & Director and of the Shisaka Development Management Services in South Africa. He has over thirty years of experience in development finance, primarily in low income housing, urban regeneration and in socio-economic development programmes. Matthew Nell oversaw the establishment of key housing finance and micro-credit institutions and public funding interventions, including the National Housing Forum, where he was responsible for the overall management and its direction. He has provided advisory services to national, provincial and metropolitan government on public housing strategies and programmes and assisted in drafting national housing policy, legislation and regulations as well as establishing housing related public entities.
Matthew Nell holds a Bachelors Degree in Building Science and Masters Degree in Town and Regional Planning, both from the University of the Witwatersrand.

The material was collected mainly by Matthew Nell, Tim Gibbs and Lukas Spiropoulos, who deposited it at Historical Papers in 2011.

The collection contains material relating to the activities of the National Housing Forum, housing projects delivery systems and documents on housing sector in South Africa, which includes: housing subsidy and finance, housing loans, the national housing consumer education and protection, National Housing Policy, national business initiatives and, rural and agricultural development. The records provide information on projects, which deals with housing matters and issues relating to them. They also include reports and publications.
