Scope and content
Material includes clippings and reports. Matthew Goniwe, Sparrow Mkhonto, Fort Calata and Sicelo Mhlauli were political leaders and activists in Eastern Cape. They attended a United Democratic Front (UDF) meeting in Port Elizabeth on 27 June 1985 and disappeared while returning to their hometown Cradock. The bodies of Mkonto and Mhlauli were found near Bluewater Bay, Port Elizabeth and two days later, the bodies of Goniwe and Calata were found near St. Georges Strand, Port Elizabeth. At the inquest, Eastern Cape Judge President Neville Zietsman ruled that no one could be identified as the murders. He saw members of the security forces as the most likely perpetrators. No one was prosecuted.
